German Wholesale Prices (April '26)
Wholesale prices jumped 6.3% this April compared to last year, the sharpest annual increase we’ve seen in over three years. This spike was largely driven by conflict in the Middle East, which sent energy and raw material costs soaring.
The big movers:
Energy: Petroleum prices skyrocketed, sitting 37.3% higher than this time last year.
Metals: Prices for metals and ores also saw a massive leap of over 40%.
Other increases: Flowers, plants, and chemicals are also getting more expensive.
The silver lining: Not everything is more expensive. Prices actually dropped for kitchen staples like dairy, eggs, and cooking oils (down 7.8%), as well as coffee, tea, and spices (down 7.5%).
